I just am establishing my tank now.. have a eclipse biowheel hood on the tank.. but atm the motor part is broken until I buy the new one or repair it somehow...

Anyways to establish the tank I have 2 Goldfish in it now a Black Moor and another fancy tail orange with looks like a black skunk stripe.

I am wondering what other kind of cold water fish are compatible? (15 Gallon high tank) I have fake silk plants in it as well.. would take pics but my experimental pics all been blurry so far except my avatar pic.

I understand that like my Black Moor they sometimes have a hard time seeing food so wonder in the realm of compatibility in that as well so he/she ? doesn't starve.

Thanks.

I am no expert on goldfish/ black moors but have done excessive research because my wife wanted 1 or 2 SOOOOO BAD.
I talked her out of it for the following reasons:

At the time we really couldnt have (or considered having) a big tank. They get big (8-9") and (i read in another of your posts you asked about that) grow pretty quickly if given the right conditions. If they dont then its because the tank is too small for them and their growth is stunted - which is a horrible thing to do to a fish. Thats why the pros (many of them on this site) will advice against putting a fish that'll grow large into a tank thats too small for its adult size.

They are also coldwater fish - and seeing it gets pretty hot here in the summer and we usually dont cool the house below 80 the tank would be as warm as the house. And a chiller (basically air(well water) conditioning for the tank) is way too expensive.

They also produce a LOT of waste which again means its better to have them in a big tank where you have the chance to have either plenty of cleanup fish or plants to help keep things under controle.

So to come back to your original question - there probably are a few "coldwater' fish that would be compatible with your moors - but your tank is already on its limits so adding even more bioload would be a bad thing to do.

Concerning the fish "starving" because of bad eyesight. I think thats unlikely aslong as you have an eye on how much it eats when you feed. Remove all uneaten food so it doesnt foul the tank. Usually fish get fed too much anyways and i bet way!!! more die of overfeeding than starvation.

I saw a *big* Black Moor at the store today.. wow what a amazing looking fish :)

The more I've read on the fancy goldfish the 2 I have are going to be plenty. I watched them eat closely this morning and the poor black moor (my avatar pic is him) didn't get one bite, he worked hard to find food and by time he turned the other fantail got it.. of which it has eye's flat against his body so is able to see... If another fish might add a Loach or 2, they look like fun.

So I went and bought some sinking granuel food for goldfish today and now he eats fine, I got a few live plants for them to eat as well and a nice piece of driftwood. Being it's a 15 High tank with same dimensions as a 10 it will be interesting to see what I do next, but it won't be in the form of cruelty.. I'll just smuggle a bigger tank into my closet (wink) I am on a concrete slab as well being on the bottom floor, and the summers I do clean the apartment's pool for free.. so i'll talk to owner, a kickback should be, let me keep a bigger aquarium :)

Messy as Goldfish are for water and I talked alot with the aquarium store owner today he told me if I do my 20% water changes per week i'll be alright and the biowheel with changes should cover it fine.

Hmmms (dreams) a 10 foot long unused closet with removable doors, now that could fit an aquarium! :) .. hopefully I can do it.

Thanks for the response.

Well i'm already planning so anything sooner then expected would have to be a matter of a quick few weeks :) .. I got my closet which is 10 feet wide by 3 feet deep planned out already :) it has 2 sliding mirror doors on it and I honestly have no use for it but atm the doors are off and my laptop / rolltable sit in it.. I have gathered up the cinder blocks I had outback and laid them flat across the floor and have 1/2" ply as a type of "shelf" across them so I know it would support a bigger tank, my thoughs are along the lines of either a couple 20 gallon long tanks for surface area/air or a 20 gallon long and a 45, then being only about a foot off the floor easy to service.

20 Gallon long.. I would be looking in the Gourami group of fish .. I like all the varieties :) and esp. the moonlight ones

the bigger would be for the goldfish and at some point a catfish style friend or a weather loach.

Time really isn't a issue since I have a over abundance of it being disabled and nothing better to spend my extra money on, might as well put it into something I can enjoy :) .. also I sleep on the floor alot for a messed up back so I would literally be sleeping near eye-level with the tanks.. although I plan on putting the closet doors back on and would love to get a moonlight setup .. I have alot of light options if I use the underside of the closet shelving :)

decisions decisions! :) .. I figure I have near 500 free and clear per month to spend as "fun" money.. but I plan on really shopping well and watching the classifieds before a "new" tank purchase.
