Hello I havn't posted in a while so here it goes. My sister got a betta for christmas and a 1 gal. aquarium, I felt sorry for it so since I got a 10 gal. I decided to put it in there. My parents bought a house and when we move I decided to empty a small garden pond that was in our flower bed (Hard liner) I found the 4 gold fish I bought 2 yrs ago in there and a minnow I had put in there still alive. So sadly for the moment the goldfish (minnow died) are in the 10 gal. till I can get them a permanint water garden. I know it is to small of a place for goldfish but they will be gone when I get money to make a water garden, and I am short on money. Well the Betta is in the 1 gal. and the water is getting cloudy and I need to find a way to filter the water could any body help me on the cloudy water and filter situation? Would plants work on helping keep it clean? Thank you for your time.

My Cheapest idea:

Do FREQUENT water changes. I'm assuming you know what that means. If you do one or so a day you could forget the filter, I guess. As far as I know Goldfish create lots of waste, so that should basically solve your problem and you would need to do it anyway. I'm a relative newbie...just trying to share some logic.

Be sure if you use tap water that you treat it. You could buy a small bottle of tap water treatment at your LFS (local fish store) for $5-6. Not sure how old you are, but you sound young. That amount shouldn't be too much for the average kid these days. Just follow the directions on the bottle. I recommend Prime. With Prme you get the same amount as the other brands for the same price, but it's concentrated, so you can use very little each time and the bottle will last you much longer. Hope this helps.
