ok i have two small angel fish in a 29 gal aquarium and the larger picks on the smaller one quite a bit. they are new to the tank and i was in hopes they were a pair they have only been in the tank for a couple of days together. do you think i should seperate them or let them get used to each other ? i know they can be kept in a tank this size, several breeders and referance books even suggest smaller tanks for breeding them.

There's really no way to tell if they're even male or female. In my experience, angels will always pick on each other when first added to the tank. Then, if they're all the same sex, they'll calm down or if it's just a male and a female, they'll calm down. If there are mixed genders, the males will usually keep on fighting, but they typically don't get TOO violent. Keep an eye on them.

If you find that the aggression among angelfish is too much (aisde from the normal pecking order being established), you can always lower the temperatures down to 70-72F. You will notice as the tempature is lowered, so is their intake of food, speed of growth, and most noticibly... aggression.
