hi i am currently keeping a 125 litre tank with a built in filter and heater. I am currently keeping three rainbowfish, 6 platies,1 guppy and two female bristlenose catfish. I have had this tank running since march. I would like to keep some kind of cichlids as i would like some colour. Am I able to keep them with my current tank mates or is beter to start again. Ani help will be a great help. Thanks Tom :)

Pelvicachromis species would probably work best for you.

Possibly a pair of german blue rams or apistogramma, or the previously mentioned kribensis. :)

what about a severum? or a festivum?
you can get blood parrots, they have such tiny mouths they cant do any damage. ive had them with platys, tetras even zebra danios.
angel fish too
just make sure you get something under 2" this way they will grow up together and wont pay much attention to the other fish
ive kept oscars with a school of black tetras for 5 years, but tetras are fast a guppy wouldnt stand a chance

Depending on your water parameters, either africans(alkaline water) or South Americans(acidic water) would be good. And I agree with you, yellow labs are very nice. But they may eat your guppy...

You Could try Discus Fish as long as you get them from abreeder that breeds them in 7.0 water or neutral water. I keep in my 150 gallon tank Discus, Angels, Ghost Knifes, Blue Rams, Chocolate Pleco, Bala sharks, Pectus Cat, Panda Cory Cat, And Angles. There is about 300 color variations

Discus would be a very good choice. They can be kept at almost any pH and as long as you follow a few basic requirements, they are quite easy to keep.

125 litres is what.... 30 gallons? Remember you are restricted cichlid-wise not only by the size of the tank and compatibility to your current fish, but also the diet of the fish and it's water parameters. Make sure any fish you get will suit how the tank is running now. Yellow labs would not. Larger SA/CA cichlids would not. 1 angel is possible, maybe a pair, but you would have to get a small one. Discus are awesome and beautiful fish, but can be picky about water conditions and need very very clean water. I reccommend dwarf cichlids for your current setup. :)

bolivian ram, apistogramma ramirezi and paradise fish are small and friendly cichlid. Dont put blood parrot, they will try to eat your guppy as they grew bigger, they are okay only when small, trust me.
