I'm expecting delivery of a pair of bettas tomorrow. I have a 5gal cycled (fishless of course) tank that I was planning on housing the male in. The problem is, my heater in my 15gal died so I moved the heater from the 5 to the 15. I ordered a new heater but it wont be here until tomorrow, after I get the bettas.
My 5gal is holding at about 75 right now.

Which would be less stressful

Being in 75 degree water for a few hours until I can get the new heater (I'll test it in a bucket first).

Or temporarily housing him in my 15 and move him later after the heater is installed.

My 15 just has a couple platys and some dwarf cories in it. I have a 20 also but I have a gourami in there. Would it be safe to temporarily house the female in the 20? Once I moved the male into the 5g she would go into the 15g. I hope this isn't too confusing...

I think I am following you here....You really should QT anything that comes in...An easy way is to float a container in your 15 with the betta in it...That will keep him toasty and away from the other fish until you get sorted out...You may have to lower the water level a touch...Those Glad disposable tupperware containers are good...Just pop an airhole in the top....Do the same with the female...

That's a great idea and don't I feel silly for not thinking of that myself :duh: !I guess I'm just so nervous about this. I've never had a betta and I've never had fish shipped to me.
I know I should QT, but the male will be going into an empty tank anyway. Maybe I could keep the female in a separate container for a few weeks just to be safe before moving her into the 15.

Thanks for your help, I was hoping you'd respond to this. I've been keeping up with your "Pictorial Betta spawing log'. That is so cool! I'll definitely be interested in a BC's when they're ready!
