Can anyone let me know the best course of action for damaged scales. I returned from a weekend away to find one of my parrot fish wedged between the glass and some ocean rock. Some of its scales are badly damaged, i presume irrepairable. After an initial period of shock the fish in question has resumed normal behaviour, however the Parrot is starting to resemble something of a teddy bear as its beggining to look like its stuffing is coming out. Im worried about it contracting an illness or causing some kind of contamination to the others in the aquarium, any ideas............

the besst course of action would be (a) keep the water pristine for the next month and (b) add about 1 percent total concentration of aquarium salt to the water to mitigate the loss of fluids through exposed tissue.
if you've got other fish in this tank which do not appreciate the addition of salt to the water, consider the use of a 'hospital' tank for treatment.

Scales will grow back to normal over time. the best medicine is good water quality.
