ok, i went to the store yesterday and got two juvy kenyis. they are both still small, but the slightly larger one is getting a slightly yellow tinge. is this because he is the male? i am not sure whether i should just keep one in my small tank, or move them both to a larger one. it depends on whether or not i have a male and female. if the are both one sex i will definately only keep one. how and when will I know their sex for sure?

The one turning yellow sounds like a male (however they can fool you). Females will stay blue and males will turn yellow. You wont know if you have a male and female until they are adult and start breeding, as even a sub-dominant male may remain blue coloration. The best for-sure way to know is to vent them. Either way, you need to wait until they mature (at approx. 3 inches).
I would give these guys at least a 75 gallon tank. And then, get more females for the male. Having just a pair will be disastorous. If your just keeping one of them, probebly a tank in the vicinity of 35-40 gallons will be enough for just the one of these fish. In a smaller tank, you cannot keep any fish with the one. I would not put him in anything under a 30 gallon tank, simply because they are large and active fish and should have a big tank. They also need a larger tank in order to have tankmates.
