I bought some java fern from petco but it was pre-packaged ( ) Has anyone else ever used these?

I planted them in the gravel last night and they are indeed alive but the leaves don't look healthy; how long should it take for there to be some improvement?

Petco Plant in a box are sometimes not aquatic plants at all. Should take a day or three to perk back up. Any ID on your Plant? If it ends up not being an aquatic plant, I would return it, and ask for a plant trade online. You'll be much happier with the result.

Hrm, you can plant java in gravel, but it actually does better if you root it to something porous, like driftwood or a porous rock.

I use elastics to place my Windelov and it rooted to the driftwood in a couple of weeks. Cut the elastics and viola, java on driftwood.

says Microsorum pteropus on the package. Labeled as "tropical fern" though. I have porous rock that would work well so maybe I'll move it to that instead.

i bought some of those prepackages java ferns. I found three that looked really healthy out of the dozens that were almost dead. I tied them onto some driftwood and they are doing great and now look exactly like my other java fern. Some of these prepackaged plants are not aquatic plants but if u know hte latin name, like u do then ur ok. Buying these plants have advantages. Usually chain stores carry their plants in tanks with fish and this can spread diseases. Also snails are not present on the prepackages plants.
