I'm picking up a 90 gallon tank shortly but I have not been able to decide what to put in it. Its a 3 x 2 x 2 foot tank, so its going to be "interesting" in my choices of fish.

I was thinking one of the following options;

1.) A single Oscar
2.) A single or a pair of Jack Dempsy's
3.) Discus community
4.) African Community

Any idea's? This tank is totally open for suggestions.

i would say your best option would be african community, probably fish from lake malawi would be most appropriate and they would certainly look amazing in a 90 gallon tank if its set up properly, good luck hope all goes well.

I'm more of a fan of the south American Cichlids is the only thing..

Firemouths might be nice as well....

how about a tank with geophagus species????

or maybe even some biotodomo sp. these would mix pretty well with firemouths ive read..........

pick the right sp and they get to roughly 6" also, just the right size for firetmouths...........

biotodoma cupido

or how about rainbow cichlids too??

all different suggestions from the norm.

A 90 gallon would be too small for a jaguar cichlid.
Go with discus, they don't call them the kings of the aquarium for nothing!

Even though Discus are pretty cool, I hate how expensize the really cool looking ones are. My LFS only has really common looking ones and they are still selling them for like 40$ (and they keep them with some bala sharks).

I heard Discus are real hard to take care. Also I am pretty sure Jaguar Cichlids would be at home in that size aquarium. It would be cool to go with a few schools of dwarf Cichlids.

An african community might be cool to keep.

I think a 90 gallon set up with some nice rockwork with caves, a few hardy african water ferns, and a fairly large group of Pseudotropheus demasoni would look absolutely spectacular.

Nice discus Joe. Discus aren't as hard to care for as many people think. Just good water quality and a few more water changes than most other fish and they will thrive.

Thanks Deb2, and I have to agree that they aren't that hard to care for. :)
