I have my fish tank right next to my desk in my bedroom, and i love watching my fish in the morning, studying, procastinating, whatever I am doing. But every now and then I hear creaking, like wood adjusting to the weightshift if there is any, i doubt it, but i was a thinking, theres a about 1000lbs total in my 72g tank. What is the max that this holds, I mean, some salt water tanks with ive rock, are easily holding 100lbs plus of just rock, and water isn't the lightest thing in the world. are there any stories of fish tanks cracking due to too much weight,

I have a video of a kid lifting weights next to a tank and jabs the weights right through the side of the tank and you just watch the water and fish fly out! here

Unless you've filled it full of rocks, it should be fine as long as you've supported it correctly. It should be level and supported evenly around the edges. Evenso, I have a friend that has 55 gallons supported only on the ends with no problems. water is 8lbs per gallon. do you have the tank on a stand? If the tank were creaking from weight, it would have already busted. If your stand is creaking, you need to figure out what the deal is before it stresses the tank and it busts. Kyle

I'd worry more about the TABLE than the TANK. The tank is designed to contain itself as long as it is level and evenly supported--the table may not be built to carry the load. Since you hear it shifting, this may be a sign that it is overloaded--and if it fails, the tank will fail as well.

I've seen that video before! it's funny I woul've like blocked the hole with my hand or something... well...I'm kind of new so I don't know much if I were you I would check the desk more than the aquarium and does it really weisgh 1000pounds!?

well I think its due more to the paint giving in some places, the tank has been in that place for almost a year, and with the changin temperature of the house, I am thinking its just the paint breaking its bond to the tank.

I was never once scared of the stand giving away, I built it myself and it has 8 2 x 4's as supports and 1/2" thick paneling all around. but the idea of the tank giving away could happen theoretically speaking
