Last night I added 4 black mollies to my new 55 gallon tank. Babies were born during the last 24 hours.

I had a few minutes so I tried netting some babies and putting them in a breeding net to help make sure they would get food and stay safe but I put the breeding net in a bit too deep at the back and I knew they would be able to swim over the top and out so I didn't bother catching any. I had to leave the house, so I just figured I would fix it later.

When I came home later, most of the babies had put themselves up over the edge and into the breeding net!!! It's stuffed full of fake plants, so they are quite safe in there...I just want to know how they knew that?

Cool!
I think they just instinctively look for places to hide that bigger fish can't get into.

My platy gave birth in my QT tank with the new goldfish  Three survived and boy, did those goldfish try to get at them! They found the perfect place under the bogwood where no one could get at them.

I finally freed up my 2.5gal, moved the goldfish into a large bowl temporarily and caught them. They're in there with a sponge filter and java fern. They don't hide at all now. Cute little guys :)
