Okay, so what really unique item did you find for that special someone on your list? Can be your better half, kids, friend, whatever. A unique item, something that really says something about that person, not an iron or a toaster or a riding lawnmower :)
My husband is a WWII buff, watches the History and Military channels, and has a big respect for some of the master tactitians on both sides. One of his favorites is Panzer General Heinz Guderian. For Christmas I bought him copies of Panzer Leader and Achtung - Panzer! and an authentic WWII 2nd Class Iron Cross (1939).
Man, did it take a lot of research! I know nothing of this stuff. There are a lot of people selling 1813 Iron Crosses (WWI) on eBay and labeling them as WWII (1939). I ended up paying a bit more and buying from a militaria site instead of taking my chances on eBay.
I hope he likes it!

I got mine a gun..of course he had to pick it out and get it since my FOID card ran out. But he likes it anyway. It's some repro Civil War era gun that will fit in a certain holster he got this summer...

Okay--feel free to laugh.
Yesterday my mom emailed me to see if I could go to the local Goodwill and see if they had a cassette tape player she could give my Grandmother. Apparently, my mom and aunt had been 'looking everywhere and no place had them'. I told my mom I was pretty sure the local Walgreens or RadioShack would have them, should I check there first? Well, of course, she said I should, and I did, and they had a pelthora of choices. So, I picked up one for a whopping $14.99, and mom is happy.
Then today, I talk with my sister. She says that my mom's 'everywhere' included Target, a music store in the mall, and my aunt checked the Radio Shack--in Vail CO. Sigh. Silly people.
So, while it's not that unusual, and I'm not really that impressed with it, a cheap-o casstte tape player with radio that my mom and aunt are giving my grandmother so she can listen to her books-on-tape is the present I'm getting the most credit for this year!
For my own giving--I'm giving my sister a framed picture taken of her during one of the triathalons she competed in earlier this year, and an electronic version of the same picture. She really wanted it, but didn't want to pay the online price tag.

Nothing represents the spirit of giving more than the infamous lump of coal.

We did the same for my dad a few years before he died and it was the best thing we could have done. He didn't have any audio books, so we bought him a whole bunch.
Great gift!

COol stuffs.

Yeah, it's a good gift, just ridiculous that my mom is making a big deal out of me being able to find it, and saying that it was impossible to find in Denver.
For my sister--this is my OLDER sister. She has always been pretty active and fit, but decided last year to run a tri for the first time. She did well, and has really gotten serious about it. If she would practice and reduce her transitions, she'd be really competative--her actual race times are always within the top 10 percent, but her transitions slow her down to 20th percentile. I'm proud of her, but it drives me a little crazy that she's always bugging me to join her in one!
I'm giving my siblings money because I don't know what to buy them and I never get out anyways.
They're the only people I buy stuff for because I have to. But I'm not a bad person or anything - because it's not like other people buy me stuff anyways. I'd be mad if they did because then I'd have to buy them something.
Well I got my Christmas present early from my boyfriend... I got a white gold and pink sapphire promise ring. I thought that would fit under this thread.
For him... well I have little money because I am a student, so I am making him something. We're both hardcore poker players and so I am making him some shirts that say lines like "ALL-IN" and "I NEVER BLUFF" and just stuff like that... I think that'll be a good gift.

Well, this year I think I have come up with a pretty good gift for my hubby. He is a fireman and has been for 15 years. Over the years we have collected a bunch of fireman memorablia yet never really had a place to display it. I bought a huge shelf that is nearly like a mantle. I framed all of his department photo's, and hung everything up on a wall arranged it nice, finished a fire department scrapbook, and then took it all off the wall and hid it. This way the holes are drilled and it's all ready to go. When he goes to bed Christmas eve, I just hang it all up on a huge wall. He is pretty oblivious and hasn't noticed the holes in the wall. I really think he is going to love it. He has been wanting all his stuff in one area for awhile. I even found an antique pike pole to place above it all and a few more antique fire items. I'm excited to see his reaction.

That's neat! Do you get involved too? Closest I get to that is wanting to use my Bounty Hunter detector around here. It's a HUGE nono in Fairfax Co, VA. Darn politicians.
Some day I'll to see one of those reeactments -- probably in Williamsburg.

I'd like to get one some day. I prefer the Remington over the Colt because of the removeable cylinders. You can have several loaded up and not have to reload after every six shots. Eastwood did that in one of his westerns, but I can't remember wich.

My best friend and I always exchange "joke" gifts at Christmas. Last year I gave her a chunk of coal. (I got a used up gift card) This year, I'm giving her fake dog poo nestled in a box of grass. I can't wait to see what I got! :D
