My friend gave me a few baby convict cichlids. I am trying to get my 35 hex tank set up will they be ok in with my gold fish for now

Either the convicts are going to be cold or the goldfish are going to be hot...

Not so, unless convicts need a temperature higher than 78 degrees. Any type of goldfish do fine in temperatures up to the high seventies.

If that's the case I don't see a problem...as long as the convicts aren't big enough to be a snack...78 would be optimal...I guess I was incorrectly under the impression that goldies preferred temps close to 70..

Well, goldfish are very adaptable when it comes to temperature. Especially the non-fancy types. They do fine in temperatures from 65 degrees to 90 degrees, the upper limit provided there is lots aeration, in order to supply sufficient oxygen to the water. Water in the mid seventies is considered ideal for goldfish(although some may disagree).

I think this thread was started accidently. I believe it should've been attached to the cichlid/goldfish thread and whether it was ok to keep them together..... just another oops :D

Merged and renamed to reflect the two initial threads.

Thanks for the tip, DD!

I've always heard that Cichlids were to aggressive for goldfish no matter the size. Hope it works out!!

I have a 1" con in with a 4" goldfish and the con beats up on the goldy. I'm getting rid of the goldy.
