Which of these options are best for a 29g goldfish tank?

If you want ease & something that looks good....

Go with an Eclipse Hood/Filter made by Marineland.

If you want the power of massive filtration...
Go with the Emperor from Marineland.

Either way, the BioWheel setup us the way to go!

I used an Emperor 280 on my 29 gallon and it worked great. Save some money and go with the 280. You are still cycling the water in the tank almost 10 times/hr.

Use a canister. Goldfish need clean water and they produce a lot of waste. They are huge bulky fish. I would use a canister and a hob. I prefer aquaclears.

I've been using UGF plus HOB on both of my Goldfish tanks for going on a year now.

Thanks!

How much flow to your UGF? Regular or reverse flow?

Is there a particular HOB that you'd recommend?

Do you and/or Kissofthegorami have a specific recommendation for a canister filter in this scenario?

My goldfish live in separate 20-high tanks. The UGF are the regular flow economy models driven by airstones. I can't calculate the flow rate. I use Marineland Penguin 150 bio-wheel HOB filters that are manufacturer-rated for up to 30 gallons. Without going to reverse-flow, I can see that I will have to make sure to keep the part below the UGF clean.
