When my membrane was out of service I used distilled for a few weeks. Distilled is no different than ro/di. Make sure it is buffered before use. You will notice a great decline in algae. You will probably never use tap again.:)

thanks again

id buy an ro unit but i am not putting it in id have to leave it when i move. what do you mean buffer? and can i mix it and store it or just mix it when i need it?

and also.....

how long will it take for me to see results? ie how many water changes or gallons at once?

Or supermarket drinking water...

I had problems with too much phosphate in tap water causing "green water" algal bloom...switched to supermarket spring water for my daily top-off and weekly 10% change (I buy 2.5 gallon containers of Springtime brand water). Threw in a phosphate absorber (Phos-X) and had clear phosphate free water in two days from the day...algal bloom dissapeared and I have crystal clear water now. The green hair algae will starve now I hope(I helped by manually removing as much as I could). For red algae I used Chemi-clean very successfully (It's been months since I killed it and it has not returned). My 10 gallon has been up since july. I do use Kent Marine Aquarium pH Buffer and add iodine (very sparsly), iron, and trace elements to the water.

You can take an RO unit with you, they are pretty inexpensive, maybe $100 ish tops for a 24GPD unit that just hooks onto a faucet. You can buy a tee with two shutoffs at your local hardware store and hook it in where your clothes washer hooks up.

no washer hook up in the apartment

i have bubble algae on the rock and some brownish color algae on the glass

Get an emerald crab to take car of the bubble algea, also how about a refuge to lower your nitrates, you probly do want to check those phosphates too.

my nitrates are 0

will a phosphate absorbung pad fit in a Millenium 3000 filter? I am going to buy some supplies tomorrow. Since i live in an apartment i have no room for a refugium right now.

Emerald Mitrax Crab

I have 2 clowns 2 damsels and a Yellow watchman goby. Will they end up crab snacks is that crab safe?
