Ok, I have a 30g H. Each side is 10", and it is 24" tall. I figured out the area, and it comes out slightly less than a 20H.

Could I do tiger barbs in a tank like this? I was thinking a school of 6.

I was also thinking 3-4 ottos, since they can take advantage of the height.

Now, are tiger barbs bottom dwellers or mid dwellers? In the petstores I have worked in, they always stayed near the bottom.

What esle could I add to the tank?

I am setting it up next week, after I get the aquaclear 300/70 for xmas, along with either a steath or theo heater (i gave a list to my mom lol)...

ALso, my water is like 7.6, i read tigers prefer 6.5-7.5. Should I add a little peat or will they be ok?

thanks

Once you cycle your tank I would think tiger barbs and ottos would be fine.

I see tiger barbs as a schooling fish that swims everywhere- bottom, mid, top.

You could maybe add some small cory cats as well to swim along the bottom or small loaches.

I had some rosy barbs once and they swam everywhere- usually midwater though.

I'm confused. Do you mean that it is 10x10x24? or is it 28x10x24? Is it a hex or something, or a regular rectangle?

As for the barbs, whether or not they would fit in there depends on what the footprint is. They really need at least 36" long to school well. They are mid to top level dwellers.
