where can I buy one of these cichlids

I guess it depends on if you want to get it shipped or not...

A reputable fish store near you may be able to order you some. Try a local African Cichlid hobbyest club.

Do you not have a local aquarium hobbyest club? I cannot believe an area as large as new jersey cannot support a hobbyest club, or have people who keep and breed malawi cichlids. Possibly visist your local LFS and ask if they know of any local breeders you could contact, or if they could bring in the fish for you.

Most often with fish that are a little more rare, such as these guys, you need to special order them, or wait for a shipment.

Just doing a quick general google search I pulled up this site: http://northeastcouncil.org/html/ which is a north-east aquarium society. Through them, you may be able to hunt down a few local breeders and find your fish.

If not, then you can always order from one of the larger specialty cichlid sites that stock these fish. Such as Armke's: http://www.ohiexchange.com/armke/list.htm.
