I have a 20 gallon tank. It's freshwater and filtered(Not sure on the kind of filter though, but it is for a 20 gallon tank)

Right now it has-
-Gravel
-1 fake silk amazon sword
-Driftwood and some rocks

Now my plan so far would be to add live plants
-Hornwort
-Java fern
-Watersprite
-Some Assorted Crypts

And The following fish
8-10 Neon Tetras
4-6 another Tetra Species(or White Cloud Minnows)
3-4 Dwarf or Panda Cory Cats
4-5 Ghost Shrimp

--Would this be an okay selection?
--Also if I get the Neon Tetras and another species of tetras, will they make a big mixed school or 2 seperate schools?
--If so would Neons and White Cloud Minnows be okay together and school seperately?
--What about Rasboras with the Neons instead?

I already checked most of the Ph, temperature needs, etc. but if there is anything I missed let me know.

Mind you, I'm not as experienced as a lot of the others, but, I think that would be overstocked, even at your minimums. Personally, I would go with otocinclus cats instead of corys and maybe 2-3 shrimp.

Oh yeah, has it been cycled?

How about:

8 neons
5 rasboras
4 corys
3 ghost shrimp

That would be fine, bio-load-wise, especially since you're going to have live plants.

ok thanks, I wasn't sure about numbers so I put a minimum/maximum.

I went to 3 stores today to check conditions and availability. Everything was in excellent condition, but none of the stores had rasboras. None of them, I was amazed. So I will have to wait awhile to get the rasboras.

Does it matter what order I put them in the tank?
-I was going to put the corys in first
-in a couple days put the ghost shrimp
-then in a couple more days put the neons
-then in about 3 weeks the store will have rasboras and have them setup good.

One more question, sorry for so many, will the rasboras school with a group that size?

Thanks so much guys!

I dunno about the ghost shrimp.
I had some and my tetras ate them.
Red eyed tetras

The ghost shrimp won't really be a contributor to the bio-load either, they are very small.

Hmm. I'm not the most experienced fishkeeper, so take all I say with a grain of salt, as it were, BUT: my gut instinct says putting the cories in first, especially if the tank is still cycling (is it?), might not be the best plan. From what I've come to understand, cories are a little more finicky than some other kinds of fish, so maybe it would be best to wait for your tank to mature before adding them to the mix.

Also, I've come to understand from hearsay that neons, like otos, do best in an already well-established tank-- is that true? Anyone? If so, maybe it would be best to just wait for the rasboras and start with them, though I must confess I know very little about rasboras.

yes, it is already cycled. I have 6 guppies in there from another tank in with the plants for almost a month. I already added 5 ghost shrimp to the tank to help clean for the new arrivals. I am going to remove the danios right before I add the other fish.

I will probably just have the shrimp, cories, and neons and see how that is before i even think about adding more fish or another small school.

Ok I have 4 shrimp, 4 cories, and 8 neons. It's a well planted tank, it turned out better then I expected. Could I later add a small Gourami, maybe dwarf or honey, or a betta? I think I would prefer a betta as I have had bettas for years now, but a gourami be a better tank mate.

Thanks
