It looks like it could be a Tire Track Eel (Mastacembelus armatus).

It is a tire-track like they said. It is a spiny eel. they grow to around 2 feet long.

Your cichlid looks like a Cynotilapia--what size is it. Post a bigger picture more close up if you can---but for now my vote is Cynotilapia--Lake Malawi Africa.

Possibly a Pseudotropheus saulosi male. :)

Saulosi stripes are typically wider and fewer---this one looks young though--so could be. The only thing that makes me doubt Cynotilapia is the dark dorsal fin on this one.

Have to agree with Krib... looks to be Red Zebra (common name) what I am looking for. Very nice too.

Possibly a pseudotropheus socolofi if those bars temporarily appear, and possibly a pseudotropheus elongatus if the bars appear to be a permanent pattern.

Yeah seeing the larger picture I have to say its likely not a pure saulosi, although it very well could have saulosi in it. I've seen saulosi with barring like that (which means it was probebly a hybrid). It also doesnt appear to have eggspots. The bars aren't wide enough and there are too many of them. The tail and dorsal fin pattern, as well as body shape, are charcteristic of the pseudotropheus genus. Do you remember what you bought it as?

I did a little more digging for you... and I found that its quite similar to the adult male elongatus "likoma".

There are many elongatus varients out there, but this one looks pretty similar. Its not a super rare fish either so there's a good chance you picked it up (I always try to consider the rarity of the fish when making the ID).
Here's a link to the page of profiles for pseudotropheus, maybe you can have a look through them and see if you can see anything that more resembles your fish (since you know what it looks like better than we do).
