Something on one of my snails

I noticed this morning that something was attached to my snail. It looks like a group of ants, can anyone tell me what this might be? I dont have any pics right now but guess will work for now and maybe a solution if it is a bad thing.

Do they move around? Color? Where on the snail? Could be pods--I've seen pods running around on snails often, on the shells, cleaning up bits of algae that grow on the shells. If that's the case, no big deal. If they are going near the soft parts, or aren't apparent elsewhere in the tank, you may have a problem.
 
near the rear of the snail

this particular snail i belive is a margarita snail. They are black and did not appear to be moving. I think I saw some more in a corner of the tank. Could it be spawing?
