God I'm such an idoit. I have bought a ballon molly and a dalmation molly for my GOLDFSIH tank. This is why I thought it was ok:

1. Goldfish can live in the 23 celcius tempretures that mollies like
2. They haven't harrased each other..yet.
3. So what if the goldfish eat tropical food and the mollies eat coldwater food. It's just the same, isn't it?

Someone please tell me if I'm right. I don't want my fish to die!

Well they won't die right away but the food for both is very different. The tropical food is very high in protein, something most tropicals need. Goldfish, though, need a high carbohydrate diet so their food is lower in protein. This diet difference will eventually lead to problems.

Harrasment probably won't be a problem unless you let those goldfish get to their proper size (18 inches or so for common, 8 maybe more inches for fancies).

If it is possible I would see if the store would take them back, maybe for credit or something.

I would take them back if I could, but they are christmas presents from my sister. I want to move my goldfish into my backyard pond that I emptied for winter, but that topic needs discussing in the Pond Forum, not here. How can I make sure both my goldfish and my mollies get the right food while I set the pond up? Take the fish out of the water and feed them seperatley? Wouldn't that stress them? PLEASE HELP!

In the short term the shared food will be fine, perhaps mix tropical and goldfish food together to make a blend. Not perfect but everyone should be gettign some of the right nutrients until you get the goldfish moved.

As for a winter pond? Well a huge rubbermaid container works wonders with a filter added. I am sure that the pond forum will be better able to answer those questions though.

Good luck.
