I know that ChillDawg is a Normal person part of the year. And there are a few that are close to Normal (Nursie and TEES_91). Anyone else?
I guess the folks down under are about as far from Normal as possible. :joke:

Normal is abstract..its not possible.
If everyone in the world was 'abnormal' and you were 'normal' you wouldn't be 'normal' because you are the abnormality in the world.

Actually it isn't a word, but ever since Dragnet (Tom Hanks and Dan Akroyd version) People have been using it freely as if it were always part of our vocabulary. The correct term would be Normality I believe.

Hey Dave. Normalcy is a word. It means normality.
Actually it isn't or at least wasn't until few years ago. Our illustrious media in this country picked it up some where and started using it in an attempt to make themselves seem smarter by using words none of the rest of us have heard :rant2: . I researched it at the time (about 10 years ago or so) and found no trace of it's use previously. It did not appear in any dictionary thesaurus or other print that I could find. It may by now have been adpoted as a new word, but it wasn't always. The first time I heard the word was the Movie "Dragnet" where the villians called themselves pagan's (People against goodness and normalcy) up to that point Normality was used as far as I can find. It really doesn't matter in the big picture because we all know what is meant and that is the key to communication, I just get all warped when we hear new pronunciations and made up words that I consider unnecessary.
MY new favorite is the term "Black ice" which The weather channel has butchered to become "ice that looks like wet pavement" Ice is neither black nor did it need to be called anything but ice. The original term "Black ice" comes from the coal mine regions. Black coal dust would settle on the roads near the mines, and when it got wet it would get dangerously slippery just like ice. This was not frozen water, nor did it have anything to do with real ice. It was however black unlike Ice you would find on the road in the wintertime. But alas for the anal retentive folks like me, Black ice is now clear ice frozen on the raod, and fortunately for everyone there are very few places where airborne coal dust settles on the roads.
Wow that was more ranting than I should have allowed myself. feel free to flame me, if you use black ice it will burn for a while, but I can use real ice to stop the pain and return myself to normalcy :joke:

I looked it up so I wouldn't look like a complete idiot, as I usually do. I found it in my Random House Collegiate Dictionary, copyright 1980. Also found it in World Book Dictionary, copyright 1966. The word's been around a long time, you just don't hear it used that often. I'm with you on the way media and celebrities change the english language. I read the other day that " bootylicious " has been put in the new dictionaries. Please. I also hate the way english is butchered on a daily basis. I have a good friend who uses the word " irregardless " all the time. You can find it in the dictionary. It was put there by frequent use and has the same meaning as regardless, according to one dictionary. I give him a ration every time he uses it.

I'll stand corrected at least on time frames if not more.
Either way I shall probably continue to refuse to use the word and rant about it for the pure joy of ranting.
I am re-reading the "Ultimate Hitchikers Guide" (A compilation of 5 books and a short story) and today I noted that Douglas Adams (The author) used the word normality not normalcy.this alone should be proof that "normalcy" should not be used   :joke:

Pled is correct. I guess pleaded sounds better on the air? Another example of idiots in the media.
Still waiting for someone to define "normal".
