Does anyone know anything about these fish? Are they similiar to the demasoni as far as aggression is concerned? I think that this fish is beautiful and I am looking into getting a few of them....

I am looking into getting a few pseudotropheus tetracephalus you'll have a very hard time finding them ... there's no such fish. do you perhaps mean Neolamprologus tretocephalus?

One of my favorites!!! We have 5 in our tank, and have found them to be more on the aggressive side and can hold their own. A lot will depend on what size tank you plan on putting them in, and what tankmates they will have.

Can be VERY aggressive. We do aquarium services and one of our clients had one in his malawi tank full of seemingly aggressive mbuna, but this guy was beating them all up. Had to take him out right away....
Neat fish though. I'm sure it would do best in a species only tank or a lake tangynika biotope.

Old post but to answer your question trets can get to 6"...I would say a 3 foot tank as a minimum for just the breeding pair. The offspring would have to be removed as they are very conspecific aggressive. They also are not very easy to breed and there are other tanganyikan cichlids that would breed readily in a 10 gal.

Trets will definitely beat the crap out of each other in a 10gal.
If you were going to do just 3 of them at an inch they will be fine for a month or so til you could move them to a larger setup.
I have 4 of them in a 120gal with several other tanganyika's and they still beat the crap out of each other and i can see a future mishap down the road with trets in a 10gal, i would stick with shellies for that size of tank..
I keep one successfully in a three foot tank of mixed malawis. There is no question that he could handle any one of them if they got too uppity. i got the tret young and he has grown up with the vast majority of the fish in the tank which I believe helps.
