Hi everyone!

A week and a half ago I noticed my male gourami had what looked to be a cut on him so I kept an eye on him to see if it would heal on its own. After a couple days there was no improvement so I began adding maroxy to the tank to keep the cut from becoming infected. Unfortunantly it just keeps getting worse. Ive inclueded pictures so you can get an idea for what it looks like. Any suggestions on how to go about treating it, what it may be, or what caused it would be helpful. Thanks!

The tank it fully cycled:
Ammonia:0
NitrITE:0
NitrATE:10
Temp:78

Early Stages:

Advanced Stages (2 pics):

I've cured sores on my goldfish with melafix. Also increase your waterchanges and add a little bit of salt. 1 teaspoon per gallon should do the trick. Clean water, melafix and some salt should take care of that injury.

rrkss,

Are you sure that's not an ulcer instead of an injury? Kinda looks like one to me.

Kinda looks like a bite or a rasp mark. could be your plec has had a suck as it were.

It looks like an ulcer much like what my goldfish had. Melafix stimulates immune response in fish and speeds up healing. The fish's ulcer went from getting worse and worse to vanishing in two weeks with the Melafix. I am sure it will help this fish out.

A pleco would only do that if it was starving and that tank doesn't look overstocked at all. He's probably getting lots of food.

Nod nod, you're probably right.

Thanks for the help. I don't think it would be the pleco. It's a clown pleco and he gets his own sinking tablet that he eats happily everytime I put it in the tank so I know hes getting food. I'm going to run out now and get some melafix and keep an eye on him. Thanks!

Make sure you take any carbon out of your filter(s) before adding the Melafix, as the carbon will suck it out of the water and thwart your medicating attempts.

Nod, and make sure you keep the water fresh and clean. Change every day or two, if you can, and redose the mela.

Pretty fish, btw, and a very nice tank.

Best of luck!
Roan

BTW, before I forget -- if there is no response to the mela after a few days or that sore gets any worse, I would consider it something far more serious. Quarantine him and start dosing with a straight antibiotic like tetracycline or erythamycine. Keep an eye on the other fish as well.
