Hi !

I have a 10g tank that is going pretty good, the only problem is that my gravel, which was at the beginning white, is now greeny brown, which looks just dirty :( I would like to change it for another colour, maybe something like a light brown and i was thinking how could i possibly do this... Any idea?

Thanks!

yeah you can change it. Just do a VERY thorough vacumm to get rid of the gunk in the bottom of the gravel that may be toxic to fish. Then just change it. there should be enough established bacteria in you filter that removing the gravel shouldn't do anything to cause a re-cycle. Just try to get rid of all the waste i nthe substrate first cuz that gunk is nasty stuff.

I just replaced the gravel in my 55gal w/ sand w/ out removing the fish everything went smooth! A ok go for it!

You could probably syphon it off the bottom slowly with a large hose and suck any harmful bacteria out with it. Might take a water change or two to get it all but that would be my gameplan. Then just rinse the new gravel well and add it with a cup (sink it and pour slowly with each cup full) to minimize sediment.
