Tinfoil Barb Question

What are the dimensions on the tank? Both tinfoil barbs and silver dollars are schooling fish and need to be kept in groups of 6 or more. Silver dollars --depending on the type -- can grow from 6-12" and tinfoil barbs 14".

I'd say your tank is too small for the barbs but you could have a small school of dollars so long as they are either Metynnis hypsauchen or Metynnis argenteus. Hypsauchen will grow a little larger in depth than the argenteus and maxes at ~8", the argenteus ~ 6".

If you do dollars, make sure the tank is either heavily planted with herbivorous resistant plants (dollars are herbivores but will pretty much eat anything, including the more tastey plants) or heavy on the fake stuff. Dollars are skittish and need to feel secure in that they have many places to hide.
