YES! My Goo obos and Gertrudae (a blue eye rainbowfish) are here and I'm VERY excited!

They are SOOOOOOOO small and SOOOOOOOOO dang CUTE!

I'll post some pics in a few days once they get settled in.

The Gertrudae are full size of 1", have the finnage and the BIG blue eyes, but lack the color. Any color they have is probably faded from travel and stress. I hope they color up soon. They are in their own tank with no other fish, so I'm also using that as a QT for them.

The Goos were very difficult to get out of the container I put them in. I've had better luck with otos and plecos than these guys. I ended up taking 30 mins gradually diluting the water with my tank water, until it was almost exactly the same, and then sliding them in the tank. They headed right for the driftwood and I haven't seen them since :)

I also received 8 more Boesemani rainbows, about 2" in size, and they are awesome as well.

Happy happy happy! I've gotta get 6 more Gertrudae, then I can start on the other blue eye tank and my 75g Millenium Rainbowfish tank.

If anyone wants the name of a GOOD rainbowfish breeder who knows how to ship livestock properly, give me a PM. He's VERY thorough and the fish got to my house with their water at almost the same temperature as my tank water - 75*.

Pictures...must have pictures!!
Where does you breeder live? I may be interested..we'll see what my lfs can come up with. They do carry some.

I'll post pictures in a few days when the gertrudes settle in a bit more and I can actually find the goos to photograph :) I found two of them, but they waddled away real quick into the caves I had made.

He lives in CA and was recommended by Gary Lange on the Rainbow Mailing List. VERY nice guy, he actually sent me 8 gertrudes, 8 boes and gosh, I think 10 Goos. I only paid for 6 each.

His web site is http://www.thatfishshop.com but I'd just use that as a catalogue of what he has. He has a LOT of different kinds of rainbows. On AquaBid he is Rarefishatlax and I contacted him via there.

Tanner is an awesome guy to deal with. I bought my peacock gudgeons from him and they all arrived in good health. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with him again in the future. I've had my eye on those Goo-obos for a while but I don't have the space for them yet. Can't wait to see some pics of them once they settle in!

Are the millenium rainbows you are talking about these ? They are tank raised right ?
Yep! Tanner breeds them. They were just brought back from PNG a couple of years ago and there are only two or three people you can get them from ATM. Tanner, Kent and Eric Brock.

Wow they are beautiful indeed.
That whole page makes me drool... lol

I know i should do my own research but i guess i feel lazy - and hopefully can take advantage of your knowledge (like i usually do). ;)
How does it work with these different "rainbows" (like the red ones and for example boesmanis) - can they be kept in the same tank or would they start to breed with each other (for a moment assuming conditions would be good enough for them to "feel like it") and you end up with possible cross breeds ?

The more i think about it i am fairly certain my big tank will have rainbows - now the questions is which kind - thats why i am asking.

I've been warned specifically against mixing Boes with any smaller rainbowfish, not because of cross-breeding, but because of aggression. And as a general rule for all specie, they should be kept within their own specie. That being said, people mix them all the time and Tanner sells them mixed as well. The only two specie I was going to keep in the same tank were splendida dubulayi, an Australian fish, and Glossolepis wanamensis, another PNG fish, if I can find the latter. Very rare.

Yes, they will interbreed and no one seems to mind unless the result it ends up out in the hobby somewhere other than where it was bred.

Cool! Just remember that they need to be in groups of six, as in 6 Boes. Mixing the specie is like having 3 neon tetras and 3 glolites. They just aren't happy that way.

Lemme know if you have any questions.

Nice. I have had my Gertrudae for a long time now. Mine where wild caught. May I suggest that they look their most beautiful around bright, light green plants. I've been keeping them with the prize of my rainbowfish: Pseudomugil mellis. Which I'm sure is very hard to find, they are close to bieng endangered... Thanks to the **** mosquitofish!
