I collected some nice looking beach driftwood to use in my aquarium. I don't know what kind of wood it is.
Is there anything necessary to do with it besides boiling and soaking it until the water is clear?

I have a few pieces of bogwood that I'm letting waterlog. They were never used in an aquarium prior and required submerging because it was dry and was bouyant. I used a 5 gallon bucket to put two pieces in and I have changed the water once in two weeks. The water becomes brown like strong tea and you just have to repeat the process of renewing the water and waiting for it to become totally waterlogged and when water is clear they are safe for your aquarium.

I havnt seen the outcome of my bogwood pieces yet, as they are taking some time to waterlog, but it is the method that is reccomended by my aquarium books.
