hi all

i'm on vacation and my dad called tonight to tell me that my blue damsel
had died.
ammonia 0
nitrite .3
salt .025
nitrate .24
i know that the nitrite is high but is it leathal
also the nitrate is a little high
my tank is 77 gal with 70 pounds lr
my problem is that i go home on wednesday and wanted to bring fish home with me as there is no marine pet stores where i live so i always have to fly my fish in.and this is my chance to actually pick fish out from the tanks and not trust the store.
the tank has been set up for 2.5 months with just 2 damsels and the rock was added about 1 month ago.
so should i go ahead and bring fish home?

thanks

Do you use tap water or RO? If it's RO get your dad to start making up some water cos your gonna want to bring down those nitrates before you try to aclimate new fish. The Nitrite is probably due to the damsel passing, and it might have disappeared by the time you get home, if not the water changes will get this down. It would be hard to believe that you could still be cycling with that much live rock, so I would think it's due to the damsel. What fish are you thinking of getting?

i wanted to get 2 perc clowns
and maybe another small fish not sure which one yet maybe a yellow tang
my water is just tap water. but maybe i'll ask my dad to make a mix for me and change the water tomorrow before i get home

I don't think those parameters are bad enough to kill a damsel they're soooo tough. I'd blame it on dad and see if he'd change water for me;-).
Bringing fish home however is your call, my advise is to be patient and perhaps you can grovel online in places like here for help with livestock.

2 percs will be fine, they're pretty hardy. Get your dad to make the water up and do a water change to bring down the nitrites and nitrates and you should be fine.
