Can these fish be a part of a 20 gallon community tank? If so should there only be 1?
-thanks

rams are the smaller of the cichlid family along with apistos, german blue rams and bolivian rams are the common community fish, with calmer temperments and max size at around 3 inches. they are also easier to breed than most community fish. hope that helps

German blues I own and can safely say they are fine in a community tank setting. They generally ignore the other fish in the tank except when spawning and protecting eggs/fry....but they aren't supper aggressive even then.

They generally don't do well with fish that are overly aggressive though. They can pretty much dish it out, but don't take it very well...lol....

I can't say anything from experience with the bolivian rams. I have never owned them...but I don't think they're much different than the blues.

how many german blues are good for a 20 gallon community tank

I was wondering the same thing about rams. I have a 29 gal. that will be cycled soon. I wanted to put some harlequins and cories in there and then add a pair of rams. I would be a little worried about the cories if the rams began breeding.

Any other rams owners have any positive or negative experiences with rams in a community tank (especially with cories)?
