i'm currently running 2 Filster XP2s in my 115 gallon, but i'm planning on removing one and adding a power filter cause obviously the tank is a bit under filtered. I'm thinking of adding the AquaClear 500, but i don't have enough room to hand the filter on and I don't want it put it on the side.

I really don't want to move my tank out more cause that'll probably take A LOT of effort and time and that's what I don't have right now.

What would be a good replacement for a AC 500 that I don't have to worry about the room in the back?

Have you thought about a eheim canister filter, good quality. If your not keeping a planted tank, the wet/dry is an excelent choice. As the water is being airated in the dry chaimber, it depleats the CO2 thats needed for the plants. If it is a planted tank, a regular eheim canister filter would be more practical. I have a fluval and an eheim, the eheim is better quality. Plus If your tank is a planted tank, the surface agatation from lets say an a/c500 would depleat the needed CO2 from the water colmn.
Hope this helps.

The Eheim 2229 will do up to 150 gallons (600l). The wet/dry will breakdown ammonium and nitrite quite faster than a conventional canister filters. Big Al's is $550 compared to J & L Aquatics in B.C. for $390. This wet/dry is a solid choice if you can afford it. I picked up my 2227 wet/dry for only $150, it was 5 months old. I have a planted tank but couldn't pass it up for that price. I converted it to a conventional canister for the time being, maybe down the road I might do a cichlid tank.
Can anyone add to this thread.
Hope this helps.

Terry.

I'll go with wet/dry cannister for plantless tank if I got the money. Otherwise, I'll go with regular cannister. That will complement the filter you already have. Look forward for clear water in your tank, good luck.
