Here are my two Bolivian ram's and I was wondering if you all could tell if one is a male and 1 a female. Or if they are both the same sex.
Both

What I believe is the Male

What I believe is the Female

If you can't tell from these photo's then I guess I will have to wait and see. The male or what I think is the male has some trailers on his tail fins, and the other one does not have these. Plus the so called male seems to be larger

They both have a black streak on ther dorsal fins

sorry, I couldnt see that.

I found these two bits of info, they kind of contradict eachtother a little. Hope it helps.

"The Bolivian Ram Male has patches of yellow, pink and blue on its body and not as much gray as the female"

"Gender: Hard to tell. Males usually have longer filaments on their fins. Also females have more red in their abdominals "

Thanks. I have noticed that the so called female has more grey at times, and the so called male has no grey. So I think I got lucky and got a male and female. Now I just hope they start to bread. Thanks again Mopar. Also chevy is better!!!

Top photo....the one on the right is the male. The dorsal finnage goes as follows:

Female is rounded at the back
Male is pointed and sometimes extended at the back.

Other differences are:

Females have alot less colour then males and more pale where as males are deep in colour with alot more yellow as well.
Females will also be fatter sometimes.

I have two males, and the bicker and divide up the tank. Thought I had a female, until I checked the dorsal fins. The dorsal fin is the best indicator.

I agree with Mopar , from what I see you have it reversed.
