What about a free tank?

In the classified section of my local paper tonight there is a listing for a free 30g tank with all equipment and fish. (I called the number and left a message but haven't heard back yet). This classified section also listed a 75g with all equipment for $200.00. The second ad I understand; someone was once into the hobby and now is not and wants to recoup a bit of their investment. The first ad has me stumped though. Why would someone pay to put an ad in the paper to give away a tank full of fish and equipment? Why would they not want to get some $$$ for it? I discussed this with my adult children and we came up with two ideas so far: it was a surprise Christmas gift for someone who, it turns out, has a phobia concerning fish in a glass box. Or, this tank has been up and running for a year and the owner thinks there is live fish in there but isn't really sure because of the inch thick growth of algae on all four tank sides that he never bothered cleaning. You can see where I am going with this...
So here's my question to fish fans everywhere: why would you give away a tank full of fish? Don't be shy, lets hear your reasoning.

We recently had an ad in our paper giving away two 1 ft Pacus for free.

Maybe the people just need to get rid of it as quickly as possible.

Re: why?

Perhaps they're moving. Or, maybe they enjoy the fish and want to make sure they go to someone who will appreciate them because of business travel or retirement travel.

Ownership of pets requires a commitment that some people have underestimated or have become weary. And if you've only invested a small amount over a long period of time, why not just give it away to someone who wants it?

At one foot each sounds like they didn't put the ad in quick enough!
