my tank (75 gallon) is cycling with a couple of green chromis in it and I just found out my salt is low. (I am getting a refractometer today) crap hydrometers!

If I concentrate salt in a small bucket and add it real slow will the fish be ok?

also, when adding salt should the skimmer be off?

I'd remove a gallon of water from the tank, add salt to that, then slowly add it back in. You want to bring salinity up very slowly--no more than .002 per day. How low is it? And, no real reason to turn off the skimmer--I'd leave it on, just to provide additional circulation to distribute the saltier water.
