Looking for a good cichlid (heard about their personality and intelligence and got intrigued).

My current tank setup is an 80 gallon tank, with cannister and wet dry filters. Cover is two pieces of hard cover (fake driftwood), 18 fake plants of various sizes. My current fish are:

1 5" red-tailed black shark
2 ~4-5" bala sharks
7 Neon tetras
6 Dwarf otos
1 3" Siamese Flying Fox

Also currently in the tank are:
1 3" Opaline Gourami
2 4" Gold Gouramis

I understand it that the Gouramis won't likely coexist with any cichlids and I am planning to move the Gouramis to another tank.

Are there are cichlids that would work well in this tank? My fish are quite happy right now, and I like a relatively peaceful tank, so preferrably that could still work. Also, are there any cichlids that will work with this tank with the Gouramis?

Thanks in advance.

A pair of dwarf cichlids, such as:

german blue rams
kribensis
apistogramma

etc etc

If you don't mind constant gravelscaping, you could try Geophagus. Some say the brazils are the most aggressive Geos and I've never had a problem with mine; I'm pretty sure any of the other species would do fine with lots of smaller (and larger) community fish.

Actually keeping gouramis with cichlids is quite fine. My brother has two blue gouramis in his 55g with 3 blue acaras and three convicts, The chiclids just leave the gouramis alone completely, there arn't even any target fish in the tank, so if i were you, don't worry about your grouamis they will more than likely be fine
