ok, I don't know where to begin so I'll just jump in.

I have a very fine gravel substrate and some anacharis planted in it. The other day I found a few stalks floating on the surface so I stuck them back in the gravel.

I'm pretty sure I'll have to do something about this so I think I'll push back the gravel in the places I want plants and add some flourite underneath.

Sound like a good idea? Have a better one?

thanks a bunch!

Anacharis is primarily a water feeder and takes very little nutrients from the substrate (it barely grows any roots). If all you're planning to keep is anacharis then you don't have to worry about adding flourite.

However, my anacharis does grow roots - quite well too. But, it is still a water column feeder.

I guess my main reason would be to have something heavier for the plants to be anchored in. They seem to uproot easily in very fine gravel and it would probably be good to have if I add heavier root feeding plants.
