I've got a bit too much time on my hands tonight so I decided to "test" samples of tap water here... and... I'm curious to know the water parameters of people local to me and people far away and compare my local water to yours... I then thought it would be interesting to compare what fishes we keep and how they do in our respective waters.

pH = 8.0

General Hardness [gH] = 180 mg/L (CaCO3) = 10.1 dH°
Carbonate Hardness [kH] = 230 mg/L (CaCO3) = 12.9 dH°

Tropheus Keepers: In your opinion, are my water parameters close to "optimal" for Tropheus? I also "buffer" my water as the pH tends to drop to about 7.6 after it "sits" for a while. I add "SeaChem Tanganyika Buffer" and "SeaChem Cichlid Salt" to my water at approximately the doses directed on the bottle(s).

So yes... if anyone wants to share their water parameters I for one would be curious to see them.

pH = 7.5
KH = 4 dh
GH = 1 dh

I keep CA cichlids.

pH: 6.8

GH: 3*
KH: 7*

And its well water, so no anti-chlorine stuff, which is nice. No fish here yet, but will soon have a SA biotope with either rams or apistos, most likely.

With co2

pH ranges from 6.8- 7.4 depending on tank and time of day.
GH 28 degrees (501ppm)
Kh 7 degrees (125 ppm)

PH 8.5
GH .1 degree (yes that is point 1 degree)
KH 22.2 degrees

Anyone want a carbonated water?

This is tap from a municipal well in south central Wisconsin. Annual report from the utility. My home testing seems to match, but isn't as detailed.

Hardness total 409 mg/L
Calcium 81.4 mg/L
Magnesium 48.2 mg/L
Sodium 6.6 mg/L
Chloride 16.6 mg/L
Sulfate 25.8 mg/L
Manganese 26.2 mg/L
Iron .17 mg/L
Nitrate 3.8 ppm
PH 7.71
