i just bought a 55 gallon tank and im setting it up slowly, very slowly, due to lack of funds, but thats not my problem, when i bought it it came with a 200w hydor theo heater, i havent heard much about them on hear, the main contenders would be the Jager, on drfostersmith.com they are about the same price, so i am wondering if i should get another hydor theo or a jager

Ebo-Jaeger (did I spell that right?) are heaters that I have heard a lot of good things about, although I have never owned one. For what it's worth, the only heater I've ever had fail on me was a Hydor that came in an All-Glass aquarium kit from Wal-Mart. I would definitely recommend upgrading the heater. It may work fine for years, but IMO you are taking a chance by not buying a better quality unit. The aquarium kits seem like a good deal at the time, but IMO it's better to start from scratch and buy better equipment to go with the tank. I learned that the hard way.

visa-therm heaters are all I use, I have 5 of them in all different wattage... it keeps a constant temperature all the time. They are also backed by a life time guarente no questions asked. submersable heaters are the way to go for sure. they are expensive in stores but if you order at big als they are el-cheapo
