There is a mysterious diesease in my tank, and my fish are dying off one by one. Here are the syptoms-

Stage 1- Listlessness
Stage 2- Hiding away
Stage 3- Not being able to swim properly
Stage 4- DEATH

The fish will also lose it's colour but there are no other phisical signs.

PLEASE HELP! What is this disease and how do I treat it?

Erm...I don't know. But I can give you loads of other info-

18 gallon
5 mollies- slowly decreasing

Temp- 25/26 celcius

What else is there to know?

you need to know the parameters of your water to eliminate that as the problem when is oftentimes is. The things you'll need to know are if the pH is stable and at what#, the ammonia level, the nitrate level, and the nitrite level.

BUT it looks to me that maybe you don't have a test kit..... correct?

Correct! I must buy one.

I have found out that the problem is an internal parasite, which subspicously started when I put a new batch of fish in the tank from the store- I already had two fish. Now I have to figure out what medication to buy... :help:

Before you consider an internal parasite and medicate get the water conditions tested. Have your pet shop do it or buy a test kit. I am sure this is environmental. What evidence do you have to suggest an internal parasite. Losts of diseases cause these symptoms with the environmental factors standing on top.

If your ammonia or nitrites are high then it can cause your fish to act as you described.

Aye, I would agree with everyone that suggests testing your water before treating for some mysterious parasite. The symptoms you described are very general, and could very likely be caused by any of a number of environmental stress factors that are easy to treat and even easier to avoid.

Besides, why take the chance? If there is no parasite present, medicating may only add to the stress levels-- being that your fish are already weak, you may end up inadvertently killing them when they could be saved. From another perspective, why waste money on medications if all you need is to do more frequent water changes to dilute ammonia?

absolutely, you should never ever medicate if you are unsure of a disease. You could do more harm than good for your water column, which is the mainstream of the health of the tank.

The very same thing use to happen to me when I got some guppies from my pet store. All of the adult fish would. Even adding the new fish after a water change didn't matter. Still don't know why.
