I'm going to buy some neon tetras for my 5 gallon soon & was wondering how many to put in. On the one hand I know they like to be in a group of 5 or more, however, I really don't want to overstock this tank (5 neons = 7.5 inches of fish for a 5 gallon = too many?). Not sure if 3 fish would be enough of a group for them to feel 'secure'.

Any other insights into neon tetras would be appreciated, as I'm new to this fish. :)

I think you'll be fine after all the inch per gallon rule doesn't work very well. remember to do twice weekly water changes.

I just think how it would look, if it looks 2 crowded then its over stocked, so i dont think that the inch per gallon is really that great
