Hi,
This is what I have. The tank is 36x18x25=65 gal. UGV which measures22x16 which is not a tight fit and a rena air 400 pump, and a Eheim 2217 which is supposed to be good up to 159 gal. My gravel is real fine not coarse, I read sand and fine gravel don't do well with a UGF system. My question is should is I use both filters? At my local fish stores, some say do, and some say don't. The tank is clean and it is time to make that decision. This tank was given to me and I don't know what to do.

If the UG filter doesn't fit then I would reccomend just using the Eheim. It will easily filter that tank, and is a great fiter to boot.

The reason I asked that question is because over at Cichlids.com in the beginner section there example for filtration was a ...60 gal tank needed a outside filter that would flow 500-600 gph? The Eheim 2217 according to there web site does only 264 gph, but says it is good for a 159 gal tank. So I thought maybe I needed the UGF, but I read it is not a good filter to use with cichlids because they like to dig around and expose the filter, then it doesn't work and lets bad bacteria into the water.

I think all the hub-bub about overfiltering a cichlid tank is because of the overstocking that usually ensues. Your UGF wont work for both the reasons you mentioned, the fine substrate and the tendencies of cichlids to dig, so scrap that.

Id setup the tank using only the Eheim and measure for nitrates/nitrites dilligently (post-cycle) and then later make the decision whether or not more filtration is needed.
