Humans are predators and will prey on each other if nothing else is available. I think the degradation of our society is proceeding at a geometric pace. I think a big part of the problem lies in the fact that criminals know they won't be punished by other than a slap on the wrist. I believe the deterioration of a society is directly proportional to how polite its members are to each other. In this country back in the mid 19th century virtually everyone was armed. It was a much more polite group who knew without a doubt that a wrong word could get them shot. A man could get an audience with Judge Lynch for just bumping into a woman, if she didn't shoot him first. I'm not advocating that we walk around shooting each other, but if that mugger had known he was facing an armed man with the will to defend himself with extreme prejudice he may not have been so quick to treat you as prey. I know I'm gonna hear about this but it won't be the first time.

I think it goes to mind set. You're right, in an armed society misunderstandings can and did end up with someone dead. The main difference for me is that the ones without the means to defend themselves are the ones who wind up dead now. Criminals know this and rely on their prey to be defenseless. Our "modern" society has proven to be more than willing to accomodate them. I know I'm venting but this is a nerve that has been exposed to the cold air more than once. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy all the luxuries and freedoms our country allows. I just think that the "kinder, gentler" approach winds up with the "peaceful" citizen often left holding the short end of the stick.

The biggest deterrant to crime is the criminal not knowing whether the victem is armed or not.

Only Criminals and Liberals support gun control laws. I personally don't think it's the government's business what weapon systems I own until I prove myself to be an actual danger with them. So what if there is -no- reasonable reason for me to have a patriot missile system in my basement. The reason we're armed is so we can rise up against a government that refuses to respect it's own limits. Back in the 1700 and 1800's, the few weapons were the same for military and civilian sector. Now, with technology, the price of "bigger and better" weapon systems places it out of the hands of most of the civilian sector, and the laws keep it out of the rest.

I'm all for making it illegal for violent criminals and those with mental disorders prone to violence to be limited (legally) in their ability to access weapons...but if they want a weapon, they're gonna get a weapon. I'd rather the good, law-respecting citizens to have the -ability- to arm themselves without losing those law-respecting qualities.

But now we're getting into politics...and I don't think we like politics here...

Any time you talk about people, it's political. That can't be helped. Humans are predators. Period. Would you go walking around the African bush, knowing lions were in the area without at least a side arm? Me too. Once again, I think it goes to mind set. People are what they are, not what we want them to be. The wolf likes nothing more than some nice, peaceful sheep to eat.

Keys to a successful peaceful nation:

1.No concealed weapons,wear them in sight.If you see a gun you're less likely to rob someone.

2.Death penalty enforced,no downgrading to manslaughter and giving the guy 5 yrs in prison.With DNA testing there should be no 15 yr wait with appeals.

3.All executions should be public/televised.

4.If you steal,cut off a hand/finger depending on seriousness of crime.

5.Rapists/child molesters should get the death penalty,they will never be rehabilitated no matter how long they are in prison.When they get out they're so afraid to get caught doing it again they kill their victim.So kill them before they get to kill.


I could go on but those are most important

I disagree,my parents had 3 kids.

We were all treated the same.

While I was rebellious and always getting into trouble my brother and sister did very well in their lives.

Its not about how you're raised.Its about the surroundings you're in.Hang with bad people,become bad people.

My problem was that I was pissed about getting moved to the state I'm in now,I decided to rebel..lack of maturity on my part..didn't hurt anyone but myself.But at least now I can pass on that experience to my kids and show them where I went wrong.

Agree with reiverix me and my brother (twins) were raised by my late grandfather (due to my parents working situation) he was and old school english gent who instilled politeness, patience and morals in both of us, my little sister however was less fortunate raised by my parents (who are loverly people by the way) but were a little soft with her, shes now 15 and pretty much head of that household i have never heard someone talk to thier parents (my parents) in such a way, if my grandfather was here now he would be most dissapointed.
