Digging up old threads....

It could possibly be done, but not without an admin to do it.

For now Ill just manually lock whatever old threads are brought back up with nothing new to add to them. Give me links to whatever other threads need the lock.

I see no problem with bringing up old fish forum posts.The original people might not be there but the problem stated is always around.There might be solutions that the new crowd would not remember.Think of it as a text book in school.I might read something in an old post and have a question about it.If I posted a new thread with a question from an old thread then no one would know what I'm talking about.

I don't think an old thread should be localized to one person,if others have the same problem and can learn or use the the advice,then why not have the option of getting it clarified if you're not completely sure of the interpertation?

sometimes old posts are unanswered, or have information valad to what someone else is wanting to no.. other times (like the smiley wars) there is no point in awakening them...

The only reason to lock a thread is if it's rude or offensive. That also makes it easier on Moderators. A thread might be old to some, and not to others. Threads/Topics can be easily skipped over if one wants to...

It's just a result of the homepage 'random poll' feature.

I agree that there's no need to lock a post with pertinent info in it regardless of age.

Somewhat ironically, this thread is likely to be dug up 2 years from now because it too contains a poll.

does it really matter i mean its just gunna get pushed back into the back again if no one posts on it and in places other than GCC it may help someone solve a problem they need solved quickly

I have to agree with you Nursie. I have noticed how a bunch of old threads in GCC are coming back to life. I really don't see the point in rehashing some of these things, especially months later.. I mean, what exactly does that accomplish?

I think it IS valuable to be able to search (and then reply) to threads from the beginning of time when it comes to fish related topics. But here in GCC? What's the point? Sure, maybe you've been away and want to read up on a few things and catch up.. but do you really need to jump into a heated conversation that ended 6 months ago and left a sour taste for many others? Really, what's the point... unless of course, you're just :troll: ing

If that's the case then maybe we just need a few new headliners... i.e. "general chit chat for trolls"......... and we'll just forward them all there into one lump and those of us brave enough to get involved can go there and debate the darkness, while the rest of us can just be satisfied that we can go about our day without the need to glance in that direction.

Well one qualm is that new members dig up old threads and decide to post a question that is hardly related to the Orig. Topic in the least bit. Some of the time, the original thread starter hasn't been seen in a year or more and other times the original topic\issue has been resolved or is done with. And then of course, there are posts to follow that say "this thread is old", then posts that tell the new member to start a new thread. Then more posts follow because they don't know how to create a new thread...then it all repeats. Maybe those type of threads could be locked, but other than that, I also agree with pertinent info being left open, seeing as a new post in that thread would only keep an informative thread "bumped". If that was understandable at all...
