The local Walmart has 24" General Electric daylight fluorescent tubes, and also the plant/aquarium variety.

Which would be preferable over my 45g tank? Either is an improvement wattage-wise (20w vs 17w) when compared to the bulb which came with the hood.

I had picked up the plant/aquarium bulb (model F40PL/AQ) and the colors of the fish and plants seemed to intensify greatly. Just wondering if the daylight one might have been a better choice.

I'm in the market soon for something a bit brighter, but want something in the meantime that allows me to see my fish better plus float some anacharis.

Thanks in advance,
Bryant

It's your call. Both will do the job, but the daylight bulb will make everything look different (more yellow or washed out...can't remember which). You may or may not like the difference, but only you can decide that.

I ended up getting the plant/aquarium bulb just for grins & giggles. It is a HUGE improvement over the 17w which came with the hood, both for the whole tank now being illuminated, but the everything looks so vibrant now ... fish, plants, and even the gravel.

At some point I may experiment with a daylight one, but the one I purchased seems like a good idea so far.

They definitely work! I used a combination of the two several years ago.

Thanks!

Appreciate the personal experience with 'em :)

I went to HD looking for a new light but they were out of my size. The only ones in my size were 3000K.

I went to the LFS and overpaid for a LifeGlo 2 6700K.

The tank has never looked better.I have no idea what the K rating was on the other bulb I had but it was 5 yrs old.

I'm not going to say it helps the plants but the 6700K does look good.

do you know which bulb fits for 12inch coralife aqualight??
i have 2 50/50 and its too white. i mean im looking for something around 8000K
thanks
