Hi my name is Lauren I have 2 male Danios (a Zebra & Gold,) & 2 very pregnant Danio females (a Leopard & Gold,) What should I do once my girls dispatch their eggs? PS I have my 4 Danio's & 2 common Goldfish in a 5 gallon tank. The pet shop guy told me I could put all the Danio's in a tupperware bowl with water and wait until the eggs are dispatched and fertilized, then take all danio's out. But those eggs won't stay eggs forever, what should I feed them after they become fry? and does anyone disagree with anything I was told? or have any other tips?

hello i have 3 zebra danios.if you dont mind me asking how do you tell the diff. between male and female?thank you and sorry for intruding on your topic

the male danios have an "anal fin"

also, 4 danios and 2 goldfish sound like a crapload of fish for a 5 gallon tank

You have goldfish in a 5 gallon tank? Two of them? Omg, I hope you are changing 100% of the water at least twice a day.

Lauren,

Goldfish are very messy fish that get very large very fast. They need at LEAST a 10-20 gallon double filtered tank for ONE goldfish. Please move those goldfish out of that 5 gallon and either buy a 30-40 gallon double filtered tank for them or take them back to the LFS. If you do not, either they will die or the waste they produce will kill the rest of your fish.

You also need to consider getting a bigger tank for the danios. Four danios in a 5 gallon tank is too many.

You all missed the best part of that post.

In that small aquarium, I wouldn't do anything to try to keep the babies alive. I would just let the other fish eat the eggs or baby fish since your small aquarium os probably already too small for the fish that you already have.

Not only is that too small for gold fish, you shouldn't keep gold fish with tropical fish (Gold fish being cold water.) The whole thing with the bowl is just plane rediculous. Danios, while small, need lots of room to swim because they are always on the move. I would ditch that pet shop and find a fish store that does only fish, and one that has a responsible owner. Stay away from the large chain stores. I would agree with the post saying to just let the eggs be. If you try and raise the fry you will end up with hundreds of danios. They breed like its going out of style.

Just wait....

I'm getting rid of my goldfish, and my tank has a light to keep the water warm, my goldfish eat the tropical fish food fine, and I'm getting another 10 tank for the fry to grow up in, I'm wondering more about what I can do now to get my fishys to reproduce, I really want babys! I've taken the males away from the females in another smaller tank, are there any other straigies to get it to work? My girls look bigger than ever and the boys look like there getting full of Sperm cells, this is normal right? & the pet store guy told me for SURE he could tell them apart cause he's had Danio's before, so I know they're genders.

Lauren,
Goldfish will eat anything and tropical food is *not* good for them.

Please reconsider having your "fishies reproduce" as you do not have enough space for the ones you have already. A 10 gallon is not enough.

As for the pet store guy, he has no clue what he is talking about.
