i just adopted a 10 gallon tank from some people who just abandoned it, no i didnt steal it . it was my moms boyfriends sons tank and he just kinda left it to die, soooo i adopted it, and boy am i suprised these fish are still alive . so i went to go empty the tank for transport and soon as my gravel vac hit the tank it was like sludge and the heater had been unplugged for god knows how long and we found out the filter had no filter so it was just cirrculating some flithy *** water around over and over. ok the tank is at a point where im just going to soend 10 bucks on a new 10 gallon and get a decent filter. and ima start from the ground up.

ima use sand as the substrate but put the old gravel in a bowl in the tank for about a week to quick cycle it.

the guy has a cae in the 10 gallon so i may end up taking him to the pet store because i read they get 10 inches long and mean. theres 4 unidentified smaller fish and one i hope to god is a silver dollar cause if its a pacu im just gonna see if the fish store will take it, if not ill euthanize it (i couldnt hope to have a tank big enuff for a pacu, and if i did id have a much better use for it)

the unidentified are 2 diffrent kinds. one i thinks a barb of some sort and the other i just dont know.right now all the unidentified are under 2 inches.

REMEMBER I DIDNT DO THIS TO THEM

its kinda a rescue mission anyhow a few of the tanks inhabitants seem to have ick soooo i added some salt to the tank and ill get some ich meds when i get the cash. ima make sure i get everything to perfect health before i take anything to the petstore ( i dont want to cause a crisis) anyhow this tank is a mess luckly i can salvage the hood and since those cost over 30 bucks round here it was worth the trouble to upgrade the tank and filter.

what i plan to do is a sand bottom tank with a bunch of the best fake plants i can find (ive seen some nice ones) ive got one cave in there that the cae now dominates. and as soon as the tanks health is restored im going to get rid of any agressive or any fish too big for the tank.

oh by the way how big do silver dollars get.

large, much too big for a 10 gallon, you did a nice thing in rescuing the tank, I would do the same thing. thats where I got some of my fish, post some pictures of the the UIF (un-identified fish teehee it's a pun) we may be able to tell you what they are

can a 3 inch cae cause damage to another fish or is it another suspect
2 of the tetras look like they have some damage
and a perfect otto i had i put in for one day and it looks like he was attacked

Unless the serpaes had no way of getting to the battered fish I would suspect them. Little water wolves they are allways nipping at the heels to test out who is weak.

CAEs can and will attack other fish and it's usually at night when no one is looking. IMO I'd get rid of that one ASAP.

Oh, btw, if that is a silver dollar a 10 gallon tank is way too small for it. They grow to 6+ inches.

yeah . i read 8 inches but you gotta read the background
i had nothing to do with the stocking of this tank. im just trying to salvage it but the way its going looks more like i just got a tank and 50% of the fish will have to go to the shop or to the fridge
