My koi..he just wont eat..he only eats a little ..but isnt too energenic to go eat..i dont want him to starve... any advice?thanks.. :help:

Well...Im feeding him something he in not his/her race but i thought it would be a-okay... I have a med size tank with 5 blood red parrot (the man-made fish),5 silver dollars..(theses kind tend to not grow extremely big...it doesnt have too much red on it's anal area or stomach not too big...small spots on the sides)they are a good shy/peaceful type of fish....but they seem to be very happy when i come across the room when i come home from school sitting on my desk next to my tank...im guessing because i have 5 of them and they are happy together as friends and when they see me..swimming across and to the side to see my face and begging for food... :p: ...okay,first of all..i got my koi from a fish store...brought him home, sinked the plastic filled oxygen bag onto the tank on top and waited a few minutes..,after that,i cut opened the bag and let him/her koi into the tank...the blood red parrots seemed to try and bite my baby koi but my koi was quick enough to avoid the bites..but it would sometimes get chased..but not too badly...it's when my baby koi gets near them, their like "whoo lookie!hehe let's bite!"and chase him for a few seconds...i think this happened to my silver dollars before but then they became good friends and so everything is a-okay...lol it took one day for my parrots to fully understand it's just wasting time then everything seemed good....and btw..all theses fishes i have are still babies...so dont get the wrong idea, haha.i just started a new tank few months ago...last year during...hmm somewhere near winter time...my koi looked kinda exhausted during that one day..(aww man i felt sorry for him/her!><)Thing now is,he/she wont try to really eat~!It's been like...3 days..he barely ate anything!...do you think i should give my koi goldfish food?Or maybe the regular koi food?or just spiral around each day giving fish food of their race?So yeah...Anything wrong?thanks

I dont know whats wrong with him..he seems to be sucking my rock bridge with his mouth....I fed the tank with food somehow he was quite alert...he saw one coming down and immdiately ate it...unfortunately,he didnt eat much...but i wonder why the change of eating habit all of a sudden?Well anyway i hope he eats next time i feed the tank.....well anyway,my silver dollar fish are having white spots on their back for some reason...it's their back with some tiny white spot stuff i dont know of...any advice?maybe..it's cause i didnt change the tank....for months?.....yeah maybe.I only cleaned the cartaligde and poured some new water into the tank.... anyway thanks to all

well, my advice is to reorganize your plants and things, becuase even though your fish are still just babies, they could be territorial. so,if you change around the things, they won't think it is their home, and they will let your koi be. he fight be afraid of te other fish, and yes, you could try feeding him goldfish food. oh, btw, the white spots on the other fish: how big are they, and are they on their tails, fins, backs, etc? Please reply immedeatley! it could be the disease ick! the pet store uphere where I live, all of their fish have ick. so, it might be that.

NeonFlux,

Koi do not belong in a tank with tropical fish. They are coldwater POND fishes. The only time koi are kept in a tank is for a grow-out period before they are put into a pond. They grow to 3 feet! Even as a baby that koi will need at least a 50 gallons COLDWATER tank to itself to grow properly and he can only stay in there for a few months. Koi also require special koi food, not tropical fish food.

Please take the koi back to the store before it dies.

Silver dollars, the spotted type, grow to 6"+ and that is not a small fish at all. You have five of them and I hope you have at least a 65 gallon tank, because they will need that by the time they are 4 months old.

Parrot cichlids can reach sizes of 8"+ and need 55 gallons for one and another 10 gallons for each additional fish.

Overall, unless you have at least a 75g tank in your room beside your desk, you are heading into a world of trouble :(

Just what i was thinking most of the times... :duh: my dad think it's okay until when they get bigger,he's going to move my koi and the other silver dollars and blood parrot into a bigger tank 60 gallons my dad has...so no worries...though the silver in my dad's tank never actually grew up very very large..it grow pretty much a little..theses silver fishes look a bit more gentle looking than the bigger spotted silver dollars with a bit more red on the bellies...but ill take your advice.Maybe ill do that, thank you.And the koi,it's in fine shape.I sworn to this first koi i ever have when i just bought it from the fishstore i wont ever let it pass and have a very long life...and in the near future,i will get my own house,i will get a pond. :o Maybe i'll find my koi a mate until i find out what gender is my first koi...And about the silver dollar's white spots, they are actually pretty little...and they are on the back as i said.
