Just before feeding time last night I was in my favorite chair watching my fish when I noticed one of my powder blue dwarfs at the surface making quite a ruckas!! The water line is low and I have not added any water because I have a scheduled water change planned for tonight. I pulled the chair closer and watched as he would come to the surface and spit rapid rife shots of water into the air like an archer fish!! It was crazy how fast he was able to send these streams of water up into the air! I raised the lid on the tank to see how high he could shoot his streams and they were a good 6 to 7 inches. I want to film him next time and send it out to one of the funniest video shows! :)
talented little bugger!

I am going to try, I am still learning to use my digital camera! It has memory enough to shoot a 30 second video, hopefully I can catch him in the act again! :)

I have "normal" gouramies, and I thought that was the reason my hood was always wet.
honestly, I am amazed since I didn't know dwarf gouramies could do that.

same here! I was a little worried at first about having three male dwarfs (why is it is so hard to find females?!?!?) they do fight and chase eachother, but they are always trying to show eachother up with the interesting things they can do so it makes for good watching :)

why is it is so hard to find females?!?!?
I'm wondering the same thing!! Where are all the females? The breeders/producers can't be hoarding them all. Are more males produced, like frogs based on teh temperature of the tank???

I understand that the males are more colorful in the natural species, thus making them more desirable for sales, but I would still want a female to keep my boys busy!!

I had two male paradise fish and they will always be spining around each other, so I went out to get them a girl, because I thought they were trying to mate or something, but I eneded up with another male.

I just caught one of my DGs spitting!
How entertaining! I wonder if in nature they do that to knock food down to them, as Archer fish do. Looking forward to the video.

both my blue and flame dwarf gouramis do the spitting thing, it's hilarious, but theyve never shot 6-7in. you have an alympian there mopar. But, what I find even more amusing is the talewip dance they do when they are fighting. Do yours do that? they get side by side and try to slap each other with there tails.
