"If introduced to the aquarium at the same time, many varieties of tank bred clowns can be maintained together in the aquarium." Found at liveaquaria.com I have a 29g and Im new to the hobby and would like to have a clown tank, but I was under the impression that the different clowns shouldn't be housed together. I like the true clowns and the clarks. Thanks!

I wouldn't try it, especially ina smaller tank like a 29. Some species of clowns can be holy terrors, in in smaller setups, the smaller species won't be able to escape and may be killed. I had a pair of perculas (which I suspect is what you mean by 'true'). They killed a single maroon that was larger than either of the perculas within 24 hours.

i have a freind that tried 1 clarki ine with 3 percs. the percs had been in the tank about a year. when he added the clarki, it killed the percs in 2 days. not saying that will always happen, but most people say not to mix clowns.

well a clown tank is a neat idea but not a good idea to try. i like to push the limit with my tanks but i wouldnt ever try that. if buy true clown u mean percula clows they are the most dosile species but the clarky seem to be more agressive. they can all be kept toether when young which i usually do at my store but when they get older they fight over territoty, expecally anenomes. go with a pair because a 29 is to small for more than that.

although i really wouldnt recomend it....i keep a full grown maroon and a full grown ocellaris in the same tank with no problems, although i dont keep an anemone for them to fight over. they pretty much keep to theyre own territories with the only agression being a "vibrating" display when the other comes too close. though i might just be lucky.
