In the process of rescuing my hubby's cichlid and my plecos (moved them up to a more suitably sized tank), I was left with an 2.5G and 10G - both cycled and sitting there.
So while roaming the LFS I walked past the bettas. I used to work in a pet store, never really liked to see them in the lil' party cups. On a whim (since the 2.5 was all ready cylcled) I "rescued" one from its cup.
A lot of guffaw's and chuckles from the hubby because I bought a kiddy fish. Well I set the fish up in the 2.5G and he was very very happy. But as I looked at my empty 10G I could envision a world where bettas swim happy and live in peace with a group of ottos.
So here he is. My new betta - more exstatic than I have ever seen a fish and my ottos have been feasting and waving at me every time I walk by. I feel good :dance2: Hubby is a convert now, he really likes the betta too. He says he is "pretty".
Happy happy fish.

skull

Yeah, that would be the 10 year old son's. He really wanted to help. It's a good place for the ottos to hang out in.

alike

Yes he does! But my guy has a red right fin and a white/clear left fin. Go figure. He is soooo entertaining!

10 gal bettas

I've always kept a betta in a 10 gal, with some live plants and drift wood. They always seemed so happy in big tanks. I've been resucing bettas too for years, everytime my betta dies, I'll buy another to replace him.

They never did much for me either and then the kids wanted one. I got them each one, a female, and tonight I just picked another one up for our 40 gallon community tank. I really love these fish with the "ticked off" personalities. lol.
It takes great self control to NOT look at the betta's because I know I'll want one....it didn't work tonight and my 6 year old daughter pulling the "But mommy he's so pretty!!!" finally got to me.
